Jadiel Dowlin Lewis' over a decade long journey as a Black Latino Emmy-nominated actor sparked a passion to be a filmmaker of high concept genre (sci-fi, supernatural, thriller) stories. He’s a big believer art should comfort the disturbed and disturb the comfortable. He was awarded Toronto Metropolitan University's President's Entrance "full ride" Scholarship for a bachelor's in Philosophy & Film Cinema Studies and graduated in 2022 with honours.
Playback named Jadiel a “Talent to Watch” and The Hollywood Reporter a Rising Star. He created TV shows supported by the 2022 Corus Entertainment/YTV YA Scripted Apprentice Program, the $750,000 Rogers-BSO Development fund, and the pilot of his latest created TV show "Black Black Comedy" was selected by the Writers Guild of Canada as a Script of the Month in 2024. He’s also written for Cartoon Network, Netflix, and Amazon Prime. His directorial debut, an autobiographical documentary called “The Last Son of Panama” debuted at the 2023 Toronto Black Film Festival and received a nationwide festival tour and is currently available online at the CBC Gem (Canadian Broadcasting Corporation), Being Black in Toronto, 24 of Absolutely Canadian.
Jadiel's production company banner is Istmo Productions Inc. Istmo is Spanish for Isthmus, and honours the Isthmus Jadiel comes from, Panama. In the same way Panama unites North and South America, Jadiel is a writer-producer who unites the world with entertaining and enlightening media. After all Vita Brevis, Ars Longa, which is Latin for, "Life is brief but art is long lasting."
